E-learning Coursewares localisationThe client A US based company which is a leading provider of full-service professional globalisation solutions. It focuses primarily on services like localisation, translation, internationalisation etc. What the client wanted With the popularity of internet throughout the world, non-English speaking world with demand on new technologies that include sophisticated multimedia productions, software and web-based learning programs exponentially joins the internet classroom environment. To meet the tremendous requirement and expand its marketing area, the client turned to Abstract Technology to localize an e-learning courseware into multiple target languages like French, Spanish, Japanese, Polish, and Germany etc. Approach With a goal to make the localized courseware in harmony with the local language and culture as well as maintain the strong point of the original one like usability, reliability and a good visual effect, Abstract Technology's localisation engineers adhered to client's requirements at every stage of the whole lifecycle by communicating effectively with the client to ensure that all final output was exactly what the client wanted. Our localisation processes encompassed file analysis and evaluation, integration, testing, and quality assurance. Installation of target learning software in relevant languages was done at the initial phase for the preparation of future screen capture. After completion of corresponding screen-shooting from target learning software in different languages, proper graphic processing tool was adopted to do some editing and adjustment work to optimise and finalize the screenshot. Then our engineers actively integrated required graphics into flashes and adjusted them to show the tutorial well. According to test plan and test cases, our testers dedicated to test work of the localized courseware on required platform and the subtle integration problems were thereby tracked down and eliminated to ensure that the courseware would work as well as it appeared. However, these were only a portion of the whole localisation development, the activities listed above were repeated and continued version deliveries were performed until the localized courseware completely achieved the client's satisfaction. Version control is crucial in team work of software development, especially in localisation software development which involves a mass of course versions. To avoid version and code confusion which may arise from continued version generation during the localisation engineering, VSS (Visual SourceSafe) as a management tool was adopted to get a handle on version control and code management to make the whole team work in harmony. Based on this successful courseware cooperation, the client established extensive confident in Abstract Technology and the partnership is continued on a website localisation project. Benefits
