What the client wanted

The client mainly deals in the diversiform fashion merchandise like costumes, shoes, handbags etc. Considering the advantages of e-business that differentiates itself from the traditional trade model, such as celerity, 24X7 customer access and low cost, the client desired to launch an online shopping website for customers. After reviewing some successful solutions Abstract Technology had worked out, the client decided to choose Abstract Technology to implement the project from scratch.

Approach

Abstract Technology's abundant experience in E-business accumulated through many projects enabled us to precisely understand the client's needs. We suggested optimising the operation flow so as to afford facilities for customers to quickly locate the merchandise they were looking for. For instance, when a customer selected a pair of shoes, some other shoes with the same brand or similar style would be presented and always the sales statistics would be offered to customers for reference. To help the client attract more customers, we recommended the client to present the merchandise with some dynamic pictures to visualize the merchandise, making customers to skim them from various angles. A message board was conceived by Abstract Technology to receive customers' comments and feedback on merchandise. Some featured solutions such as new arrivals release, e-mail notification, shopping cart, custom service center, log analyse, bank payment etc were also considered to benefit customers and distinguish itself from other shopping websites.

Abstract Technology utilized its proven expertise in the domain of E-business development to make a proper design strategy. We knew that system reliability and security were vital to the success of an E-business system so we decided to utilize the characteristics of J2EE to implement a scalable and high-performance E-business system. In order to guarantee the efficiency of development work, and moreover construct an easy-maintainable and flexible system. Abstract Technology suggested adopting Struts framework to solve these problems. In the phase of system architecture design, the MVC design pattern was adopted to reduce the costs of constructing and future maintenance.
