The Client

Castle Technology, listed on the National Business Link Consultants Register, is a firm of Computer Consultants in the U.K. It mainly provides business solutions to their customers throughout the west midlands and beyond. Castle Technology' s consultancy team includes both Certified and Chartered Accountants. It has many years of experience in many different business sectors with business of all sizes, from small businesses with just a few computers in one location, to large companies with hundreds of computers across many sites. Abstract Technology has established a valued strategic partnership with Castle Technology. We have worked together on many projects.

What the client wanted

Castle Technology received a requirement from its customer. That organization employs approximately 600 people, and they recruit new staff every week. So it is necessary to record Equal Opportunities statistics about the recruitment process. There are three stages of the process when Equal Opportunities statistics have to be collected: Applied, Short listed, Succeeded. And they also wanted the system to record more information about the applicants and employment advertisement and automatically export the new employed to Sage Personnel which is a software solution for managing employees and optimising the organization' s resources.

Approach

Abstract Technology was engaged by the client to build the recruitment and equal opportunities monitoring system. We realize its goal by implementing the following main functions:

  • Publisher: The statistics of the publications and adverts used for publishing their position advertisement.
  • Advertisement: The statistics of the advertising cost.
  • Website: Export the new position list and upload to their website.
  • Position: The statistics or print of the positions requested by Agency, approved by Chief Executive and advertised on publishers.
  • Applicant: The list of the position applications.
  • Position & application: The statistics of position & application contrastive number, rate, pie graph.
  • Personnel: The applicants who are successful for Equal Opportunities will be automatically exported to Sage Personnel.
  • Envelope: Merges data from database into Word document to print envelopes, including the information of name and address, post title. The envelopes are used for sending letters to applicants e.g. Application pack, Shortlist letter, offer letter, reject letter.

We develop the solution using the VB6 application with Component One controls, an Access 2000 database as front-end and Crystal 9 Reports as back-end.
